Mat's First Shots

This morning was Mat's two month doctor appointment. He is measuring at 21.75 inches and weighing in at 10 pounds and 3.5 ounces. For his age he's a small baby, but the doctor said he's growing just fine. He received a total of 6 vaccinations - five shots and one oral. The oral one didn't taste very good judging by his facial expressions (wish I'd have gotten a photo of that), but he drank it all. Thankfully the nurse was a pro with the shots - I swear she gave all 5 in under 10 seconds (two in one thigh and three in the other)! He cried out for a few seconds, I shushed in his ear, and he immediately got quiet. Such a good baby! After that we joined up with Victor, Carlos, Arturo, and Lynette at Whole Foods for a quick lunch. He slept the whole time. Early evening he got a little cranky, so I gave him some Tylenol. And now all is fine. :)

Victor Update

So Victor has been staying with me at the house since Tuesday afternoon when I picked him up from the hospital. Here's a photo of his first day home. I think the first couple days were rough (on him, not me), but after he managed his first REAL shower things only got better. :) He does tire easily, though. Anyhow, looks like he's on the road to recovery - even if his bike isn't! Victor adds "This really sucks."

One lucky guy

Victor is one lucky guy, I must say. He was cycling with a friend here in Austin and was hit by a truck, er, rather he hit the truck when a strong gust of wind blew him over, head on. Thank goodness the truck was going slowly. Victor is suffering from a crushed cheekbone, broken arm (which now has some pins in it), broken kneecap, and all kinds of scrapes and bruises. He is VERY lucky just to be alive, and we are so glad to have him here with us. Don't let his smile fool you, though. I imagine he'll get the full effect of his injuries in a couple days or so. He should be going home tomorrow. We'll see how he fares at home, but he might end up staying with me at the house while Rafi's gone for the week in Japan. Here are more photos of Victor. As for Victor's take on the whole ordeal? "This sucks."

Pixel

I love this photo of Pixel. We were sitting on the couch with the baby as usual, and he made himself comfortable with the pillow. (This is actually fairly common, but his expression was too funny.)

Cooing

Just thought I'd post that Mat is starting to coo - and I caught some of it on tape! (I guess these days I shouldn't say "on tape," but instead maybe I should say "on memory card!")

Easter Weekend

The weather in Austin dropped quite a bit this last weekend. We went from 80-something degree days to a high of 35 degrees. Brrr! So we had a nice lazy Saturday. Tina and Greg came over, and we played DDR and hung out. Pixel enjoyed some cuddle time with Greg. (He's a shameless dog, really.) And Rafi gave Mat his very first bottle, which he took with no hesitation.

We want to thank Mary and Dick Smith for inviting us over for our second Easter dinner with them. Mary really outdid herself! The food was amazing, and the Easter egg hunt she set up for us "kids" (HA!) was a lot of fun. After dinner (and after Greg's nap), we played Quiddler. I think Lucy got bored with our game, but we really enjoyed ourselves and appreciate their thoughtfulness.

Mark's Visit

We were so happy Mark got to visit this last weekend. I think Mat enjoyed meeting his TÍo Mark, as you can see by this picture. My parents were able to spend the weekend in Austin, as well, so that equals rest for me! During my waking hours, though, Mom and I were able to do some mall shopping. Mark and Rafi spent some good time at the Guitar Center sale; Rafi came back with a guitar. He's having fun playing the guitar again (he used to play) and learning new songs. Dad recently returned from a trip to Alaska, so he had lots of very cold photos to share.
Just for kicks, here are a couple other cute photos of Mat. He's working hard on holding that head up. He's definitely gaining some poundage, but we won't know exactly what he weighs until his next doctor appointment on the 23rd. Incidentally, the 23rd of April is also when I return to work and Rafi starts his stint as a stay at home dad. His parents will be coming for a visit around then, so the end of April will be very busy. Mat has also began cooing just a little bit, which is really cute; but the sweetest thing to me is when he laughs the most perfect of laughs in his sleep. :)
